UNIT 1- THE HUMAN BODY
-Body parts
Human beings are animals, but they are different from other animals because we can think and we can talk.
Our body consists of three parts: the head, the torso (trunk) and the limbs.
- Vital Functions
Human beings are living things. They do the three life processes:
Nutrition
Reproduction
Interaction
-The Stages of Life
The human body changes over time. We can divide our life into five stages:
Childhood
Adolesce
Young adulthood
Adulthood
Old ages
- Musculoskeletal System
Musculoskeletal system consists of the skeleton (bones), joints and muscles. It helps us to move the different parts of our bodies.
-Our Senses
Our sensory organs perceive information from outside. The senses are: sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste.
Eyes are the organs of sight.
The ear is the organ of hearing.
The nose is the organ of smell.
The tongue is the organ of taste.
The skin is the organ of touch.

UNIT 2- EAT WELL, FEEL GOOD
-Digestive System
The digestive system consists of a group of organs that work together to help us digest the food we eat.
-Nutrition
Food is everything we eat and it allows us to grow and stay healthy. Food comes from different sources: animals, plants and minerals.
Food contains substances that we need to live and grow. These substances are called nutrients.
We classify food into groups according to the nutrients they contain:
-Carbohydrates
-Fats
-Water
-Vitamins and Minerals
-Proteins
-Calcium (Dairy)
- Nutrition Song
Our diet is what we eat everyday. For a balance diet, we have to eat the right amount of foods from all the food groups.

UNIT 3- ANIMALS
Animals are living things. They do the three life processes of nutrition, reproduction and interaction.
-Nutrition
All animals need to eat to get the energy to move, grow and reproduce:
Herbivores eat plants.
Carnivores eat meat from the other animals.
Omnivores eat plants and meat.
-Reproduction:
Viviparous: animals that develop inside their mother's womb.
Oviparous: animals that develop inside an egg.
-Interaction:
Animals interact with their environment using their senses, their muskuloskeletal system and their nervous system.
- VERTEBRATES AND INVERTEBRATES ANIMALS

UNIT 5- MATTER AND ENERGY
MATTER
Everything is made of matter. Matter has two properties:
-Mass: the amount of matter an object contains
-Volume: the amount of space an object occupies.
STATES OF MATTER
Matter has three physical states: solid, liquid and gas.
MATERIALS
The substances we use to make things are called materials. We can find natural materials, that comes directly from nature or human-made materials, we transform natural materials to make them.
Materials song
ENERGY
We need energy. Energy is the ability to do work. Energy makes things move and it makes machines go.
Energy can be non-renewable and renewable.
POLLUTION
We can reduce pollution by:
Turning off lights in empty rooms.
Kepping the fridge door closed.
Turning off electrical devices when not in use.
Folling the 3Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle.

UNIT 6- MACHINES
Machines are devices that help us do tasks more easily. There are simple machines and compound machines.
SIMPLE MACHINES
Simple machines consists of one piece or very few pieces.
The most common are the lever, the pulley, the inclined plane and the wheel.
COMPOUND MACHINES
Compound machines consists of various elements called components. These machines can be basic, for example a pair of pliers or more complex, for example a bicycle.
Here you have an interesting video about machines:
MACHINES AND ENERGY
A lot of inventions make life easier for people: from prehistoric tools to modern machines.
We use modern machines in a lot of everyday activities: at school, at work, at home, in transport and communications, and during the free time. All machines need energy to work. Machines use various forms of energy, such a mechanical, electrical and chemical energy.

UNIT 7- THE SOLAR SYSTEM
Our Solar System has eight planets, which orbit the Sun (a star). It also has satellites, comets and asteroids.
PLANETS
The planets are: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
Planets song
THE EARTH
The Earth is the planet were we live. It has three spheres:
- The geosphere: it is the solid part of the planet.
- The hydrosphere: all the water on the planet.
- The atmosphere: it is the layer of air that surrounds the Earth.
THE MOON
The Moon is the Earth's satellite. We only see the Moon because the Sun iluminates it. The Moon is constantly moving.

UNIT 8- WATER
ATMOSPHERE
The atmosphere is the layer of gas around the Earth. It contains gases, mostly nitrogen and oxygen.
The atmosphere consists of five layers: troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere and exosphere.
STATES OF WATER
The water on the Earth exits in three states: solid. liquid and gas. Most water on the Earth is in liquid state.
Water changes state when it gets hotter or colder.
THE WATER CYCLE
The water cycle is the journey water takes as it moves from the land to the sky and back again. It follows a cycle of evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection.
EVERY DROP COUNTS
Water is essential for living things.
We use water to drink, cook, wash, clean and water plants.
We must use water responsibly. Doing little things can save a lot of water. You can help too!
